Barolo Albe 2013 – GD VAJRA
Grapes from three vineyards in the municipality of Barolo, long maceration and 36 months in barrel for this Barolo Albe 2013 from the Vajra company
Bringing the glass that contains it to my nose, my thoughts go back to one of their Nebbiolos that I drank a couple of years ago, and about which I wrote (here), and I seem to see a continuity, almost a signature.
And it is the floral, pervasive olfactory attack that inebriates. Followed by hints of wild strawberry, rose, spices and barely mentioned roots, I would also say lavender, an earthy trait. Everything very precise, clean. The color is a beautiful bright ruby red.
On the palate, the acidic verve and the still biting tannin stand out, making it a very tactile wine at this point in its evolution in the bottle. It has good body, the right heat, penalized a little in the mid-mouth, but it confirms a retro-olfactory phase where the anticipations had when holding the glass are reiterated, enriched by a pleasant menthol/balsamic reminiscence and a very fresh fruity return. I believe it will be able to express itself at its best in a few years, although it is already enjoyable. At first I felt like calling it austere, but I think about it again at the end of the bottle because it’s not austere at all, but just still animated by youthful impetuosity.
