(Or even the art of tasting in the times of SARS-CoV-2)
This wine from the famous Randazzo estate (CT) is the first I have uncorked since I learned I was positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. So I go to test my taste and olfactory abilities and it seems to me that nothing has changed.
Nerello mascalese and a small percentage of Nerello Cappuccio. From vineyards of various ages at 600 meters above sea level. We are obviously on Etna.
Placed in wood for 18 months then bottled for this entry wine which is truly a nice presentation card for the company.
Light ruby, alcoholic note at the start which moderates, but which remains as the only flaw of a wine that is actually very good, delicately fruity and very particular where fragrances of pomegranate, red currant, prickly pear, finely spiced with cinnamon and pepper are mixed white, purple, at times it seems to detect hints of smoking.
The Sorso is brilliant and very defined. A wine of great balance and enjoyment, fresh, dry, saline, with very fine tannins and measured strength. Gentle fruity aftertaste. Only at times a slightly over the top pseudo-caloric sensation that doesn’t seem to fit with this wine.
In this regard, towards the end of the bottle, while I was stoking the barbecue, I decide that it’s covid’s fault. Because in the only other glass of wine I tasted the pseudocaloric sensation was the same. Excellent wine to repop at the end of Covid.
