Barolo Ornato 2011 – Palladino – Serralunga d’Alba
Among the crus proposed by the Palladino winery. It reminds me of a beautiful May afternoon spent in Serralunga d’Alba, the place where I have passed several times in my history as a wine drinker and where some of my favorite wines came from.
I would call it amaranth. The color is very bright yet dense. It worries me a little when I open it due to a strong reluctance. Uncorked in a restaurant by several people and drunk in a short time it would have made little impression, but at home it had the right time to manifest itself.
It is still a young wine. With ripe fruity, aromatic root, vaguely citrus and spicy hints and a light floral hint. Robust and warm (perhaps slightly too much), with powerful tannins and very lively acidity. The result is a very physical sip, at times a melee, yet it does not lack gustatory intensity, persistence, a nice coherent finish centered on citrus and root.
At the moment I would recommend it together with structured meat dishes.
I’ve uncorked it now, but it will certainly be better in 2025.
