Mason 2015 – Manincor – Pinot Noir/Caldaro/Alto Adige Doc
Manincor’s Mason 2015 is a bottle that reconciles me with Pinot Noir, whether Italian or transalpine, which I often end up disappointed by. For being constantly in the balance between an apparent sparseness and an unstoppable expressive force. Precision, cleanliness combined with a non-negligible complexity of a wine that never appears over-constructed.
Pinot noir, fermentation with indigenous yeasts, two weeks of maceration, 16 months in barrique (20 percent new), always in contact with the lees.
Wine with a rare brightness, open, clean and direct in the bouquet where we find red fruits such as wild strawberry and raspberry, the aromatic bunch, cinchona, light hints of spices and smoke.
On the palate it shines with its linear and long progression, the widespread freshness and the intense expression of taste, the silky tannins, a balance and a general pleasantness to remember. It ends with a nice hint of “real” fruit and sweet spices.
A nice reconciliation with the Pinot Noir with this Mason which I remembered as good and which I find good again.
