Chianti Classico 2016 “Al Limite” di San Leonino da Castellina in Chianti
Let me start by saying that the Chianti Classico 2016 “Al Limite” from San Leonino da Castellina in Chianti is certainly not the best Chianti Classico that I have drunk in my life, but I have paid more for many that were less exciting than this one and even less “territorial” , just to use an overused, indeed often downright mangled, term.
100 percent Sangiovese, in steel and then 18 months in cement and 30 hl barrels.
Bright ruby colour, of medium concentration. The nose is rightly intense with aromas faithful to the vine of violet, morello cherry, raspberry, hints of orange, some spicy notes. Dry, straightforward in character, very fresh on the palate, the acidity is abundant and sharp, supported by a coherent and gentle return of the fruit, persistent in an appreciable way.
It is a little penalized on the finish by a slightly stiff tannin, but the overall opinion is more than positive.
Unquestionably advantageous value for money.
